#SHRINEHOPPERS unoffically began one fine spring day in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, Japan while Koji and Frances were out exploring the city. What started as a quick walk to Gotokuji Temple turned into a day long pilgrimage to each of the local shrines to the Seven Gods of Good Fortune.

Since then, it has grown from an occasional weekend jaunt; to all day bike trips across Tokyo; to an independent research project and blog (hi!). I hope that you’ll join me as I explore Japan’s native faith and the beautiful shrines hidden down sketchy back alleyways in Tokyo and beyond!

Hi, I’m Frances J.*

I’m a teacher’s assistant by day and a researcher by night. On weekends, you can find me all over Tokyo, always looking for shrines big and small.
